DENVER, CO – Jessica Saldivar, a December 2024 mathematics education graduate and Noyce Scholar from Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), is launching her teaching career with a clear focus: combining her passion for math with data-driven research and reflection to transform high school learning outcomes.
Saldivar is the first graduate of the Marzano Research Scholars program at TAMIU, where she developed expertise in classroom-based research through the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship.

“Marzano Research Scholars has shaped my vision of what effective teaching looks like by helping me see that an effective teacher conducts research and makes use of the data that is collected,” said Saldivar. “This data allows the teacher to set up procedures that contribute to collecting data that is useful to enhance a classroom’s intellectual abilities.”
As she prepares to enter the classroom, Saldivar looks forward to implementing innovative approaches to mathematics education that go beyond traditional teaching methods.
“I plan to become a mathematics teacher-researcher at a high school and help other professionals like myself, to not merely teach with the heart but to teach with the purpose of helping students understand mathematical concepts, while helping other educators with our research that helps them implement procedures and set up plans to collect valuable data,” she said.
Through her experience in the program, Saldivar has developed a strong foundation in evidence-based teaching practices.
“The most valuable lesson that I learned would be to set up proper procedures to conduct and collect valuable data that will assist me to guide my students to success,” said Saldivar.
Marzano Research Scholars combines teacher preparation with research methodology training, equipping future educators to analyze student data, implement evidence-based practices, and continuously improve classroom instruction through short action research cycles.
“The Marzano Research Scholars program exemplifies our commitment to advancing research excellence by integrating teaching with data-driven research. This initiative expands opportunities for students to engage in research and scholarly activity, aligning with our goal of ‘advancing research excellence’ at TAMIU,” said TAMIU Dean James O’Meara.
