Marzano Research is proud to announce its partnership with WestEd in a new five-year contract from U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences (IES) to operate the Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Northwest. REL Northwest serves educators and students in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.
“We could not be more excited to work with WestEd and collaborate with educators in the five northwest states,” said Marzano Research CEO Danette Parsley. “Over the next five years, the RELs have a unique opportunity to provide evidence and research that will help educators respond to the challenges amplified by the pandemic. We’re ready to work alongside districts and states as they implement evidenced-informed changes to policy and practice to improve equity and student learning across the region.”
Marzano Research will provide leadership in the areas of training, coaching, and technical support and working in partnership with stakeholders. Marzano Research brings expertise in school improvement, teacher recruitment and retention in rural schools, implementation of evidence-based practices for literacy, kindergarten readiness, high school graduation, and evaluation and implementation of Indian education initiatives. Our integrated teams will be working with educators throughout the region to identify, amplify, and accelerate locally developed and tested solutions.
Over the next five years, REL Northwest will engage with communities to improve equity in education in key areas they identified, including trauma-engaged practice, social and emotional learning, high-quality early care, and racial equity and social justice in schools. Among the many new activities planned is the development of an innovative toolkit that builds on the current IES What Works Clearinghouse Practice Guide Using Technology to Support Postsecondary Student Learning: A Practice Guide for College and University Administrators, Advisors, and Faculty.
About the REL Program:
REL Northwest is one of ten RELs that partner with educators and policymakers nationwide. For nearly 60 years, the RELs have collaborated with school districts, state departments of education, and other education stakeholders to help generate and apply evidence, with the goal of improving learner outcomes.
